Canon released its new canon the EF-S 35mm f/2.8 IS STM macro lens and all of us are no less than excited to try using it in the future and we are waiting for the varied set of applications it will be put through. Here are some broad features of the lens that will help you learn more about it:-
It is constructed using 7 circular aperture blades and it is an EFS lens designed for their APS-C sensor sized bodies which make it a full frame 56-millimeter equivalent!
It has image stabilization which compensates to a large extent (up to 4 stops) and it is a prime lens without zoom like most other macro lenses
One of the unique features that it has is a built in ring light that no other lens in the market has at the front. The light can be switched on using a button at the side and can be operated in various degrees of power to get optimum fill light.
It is a very versatile lens and can be used for a diverse set of pictures including portrait photography as well has macro pictures along with travel and food photography which require a lot of detail. It is great for video shooting because of the LED light support and along with STM one can get the benefits of silent order focusing.
The physical aspects are excellent with a metallic lens mount at the back and a solid plastic body. It is not terribly expensive but goes on to create excellent imagery!
Canon Australia released a video with Gemma Peanut which shows how much difference the lens can make!
